BEN COLTONBIOGRAPHYBetween the experiences of Sintra, where he was born, and the influence of the musical waves of London and Stockholm, where he studied part of his degree in Arts and Comparative Cultures, BEN shapes his artistic identity. In Lisbon, he divides his time between musical projects and entrepreneurship in the cultural sector.
The soul wave that we receive in his sound subtly brings other layers. Alongside the influence of Motown, references from the old continent join through the eyes of an Afro-European, bringing the blending of his sound into contemporary times. Voices and rhythms take us on an eclectic journey, where the musicians he shares the stage with always add to a unique experience. The acclaimed album PIRATE ROUTE (2017) is his first full-length release, awarded in the MODE program by GDA. The concerts in Portugal, with a few stops in other European cities, led to positive reviews and relevant responses in both national and international media. In 2023, with the release of his new EP CHASING PLANES, he brings us four tracks where once again, black music takes shape, in the realms of funk, with a soul body and rock roots. He addresses social and interpersonal issues, reflecting on paths imposed upon us, barriers we must inevitably break down, and empathy with causes that aren't always directly ours. After a journey of collaborations with various renowned national artists and projects such as Puzzle, Legião Vermelha, Bambs Cooper, Jorge Fernando, Nuno Guerreiro, Virgul, and Dino Santiago, BEN is increasingly establishing himself as a prominent figure in the Portuguese soul scene to keep an eye on. |
